Children setting the pace

The importance of allowing children to set the pace

Young children have an innate inquisitiveness in the world around them. If adults attempt to place  formal instruction onto children prematurely, we can ultimately fail to address the way they learn, and stymie their natural curiosity.

By allowing children the time and space to play and explore, without unnecessary interference, we are giving them time to predict, to reason, to analyse and to make sense of the world around them in an unhurried way.

Here at Kereru Kindy we support and foster children’s learning about the natural world, as they gain an appreciation for all things that grow and live.  Children set the pace for learning and discovery, observing and connecting to nature without harming it.
